Day 1 play of Event #49: $2,500 2-7 Triple Draw Lowball (Limit) has officially come to a close! We began today with 310 players and 105 will return tomorrow seeking the prestige of a World Series of Poker gold bracelet and the $189,919 in first place money.
Jimmy "Gobboboy" Fricke has come out on top as today's chip leader with 69,700 in chips. Close behind are Arturo Diaz (50,200), Mike Gorodinsky (49,400), and Tommy Hang (48,000). Also surviving today's field are 2004 and 2005 WSOP Main Event champions Greg Ramyer and Joe Hachem. Joining them tomorrow are Mike Matusow, Daniel Negreanu, Pat Pezzin, Gavin Smith, Robert Williamson III and many more. Tom Dwan also managed to survive today's play after being down to only 700 chips in the last the last level. He's now sitting with 10,800 in chips.
That being said, we saw a slew of day-one casualties today. Among those to hit the rail today include Jennifer Harman, John Juanda, Eric Froehlich, Shannon Shorr, Nick Schulman, and Hoyt Corkins to name just a few. Phil Hellmuth also hit the rail today shortly after being crippled by Bill Chen. Hellmuth has been on a quest for his 12th bracelet this year and it has once again eluded him today. He is currently number one in the 2011 WSOP Player of the Year race.
Play kicks off tomorrow at 2:30 PM PT. Continue to follow PokerNews for our on-going coverage of all of the 2-7 Triple Draw Lowball madness!
