Just one hand after the Selbst-Nguyen controversy, Men Nguyen was in a hand with Mike McDonald. Nguyen was all in on a flop against McDonald and hands were revealed.
Nguyen:
McDonald:
The turn gave McDonald a flush and an irrelevant landed on the river, eliminating Nguyen. After the hand, Vanessa Selbst commented how McDonald was so blessed to have Nguyen give him literally all of his chips. She then went on the comment how he busted on the next hand. Nguyen took offense to this and began talking back and forth with her once again. Again, Matt Glantz stepped in to tell Nguyen he needed to stop and just leave.
The floor, who hadn't left the table since the controversy started, made his way around the table and pulled Nguyen aside, talking to him and telling him he should just leave the tournament area. Nguyen kept ranting about how the floor needed to speak with Selbst as well given the comment she made about how he busted on the very next hand. The floor did so and that was that.
After, Selbst made the comment, "He should have gotten a penalty," to the floor. She and Robert Mizrachi both said that they didn't want him to get a penalty because he was "giving away his chips" and that's why they weren't so adamant that he received one. The table seemed to be in agreement that the situation warranted a little more than just a verbal warning. Selbst and Mizrachi both looked at Mike McDonald, who was busy stacking his chips, and smiled, commenting on how he was the beneficiary of Nguyen "giving away chips."
McDonald is up to 126,000.
We walked passed where Vanessa Selbst is sitting and noticed that Men "The Master" Nguyen had been re-located to her immediate left. Nguyen brought up a hand that apparently occurred between them in a Pot-Limit Omaha event some time in the past where, according to Nguyen, Selbst was as a slight underdog and busted him. Nguyen then told Selbst not to bring the hand up and Selbt said that she wasn't the one who brought it up in the first place.
Robert Mizrachi was at the table to Selbst's right and defended her, saying something to the effect of treating her with respect.
Nguyen then turned to him and said, "She is not a woman," gesturing towards Selbst as if to point out for Mizrachi to take a look at her.
Selbst, obviously offended and shocked by the comment, turned to Nguyen and said, "You're an a****le."
"I know I'm an a****le," Nguyen said.
Selbst then asked the floor to give Nguyen a penalty for his behavior. The floorman verbally warned Nguyen, but no penalty was given.
Nguyen continued to argue with both Selbst and Mizrachi before Matt Glantz began to interject. Glantz was seated at an adjacent table and tried explaining to Nguyen that he was out of line and needed to just sit down and keep his mouth shut, defending Selbst just as Mizrachi was. Eventually, Nguyen sat back in his seat behind his beer and went on to the next hand.
We are just under 90 minutes from wrapping up the night, and here are some chip counts from some of the many notables in the field.
